Operation Steps and Inspection Methods of Stainless Steel Passivation Process

Stainless steel passivation is suitable for passivation and rust prevention of all 300 series stainless steels, especially for small and medium-sized stainless steel workpieces with large batch size, large output and convenient immersion;Among them, 316 and 317 can pass the 1200 hour salt spray test.


Pre-treatment of the stainless steel passivation process, that is, degreasing and degreasing the workpiece. If you are sure that the surface of the workpiece is free of any oil, you can omit this step.Then soak it in the corresponding solution for 2-5 minutes. If you are sure that the surface of the workpiece is free from any rust, solder spots and other impurities, you can omit this step.


Stainless steel passivation is an indispensable part of the whole process. The soaking time is 30 minutes. The longer the time, the more complete the passivation film.Then neutralize the workpiece and soak for 3 minutes. If the surface shape is simple, there is no crepe and no blind holes, you can omit this step.Finally, puring water with 3 minutes.


There are also many methods for detecting stainless steel passivation. The most commonly used and most reliable is the NSS salt spray test (the most common and most reliable method).Or a simple test of soaking with 5% concentration of NACL brine.There is also a blue dot detection method, but this method does not clearly or realistically evaluate the passivation effect.
